About
Colleen Sell: Writer / Editor
Storytelling is both my passion and my profession. Since the muse first whispered in my ear at age eight, I have been weaving tales both tall and true. And for more than 25 years, I’ve been wordsinging for my supper as a professional writer and editor— crafting words into content that conveys the intended message to and evokes the desired response from the target audience … to spec, on time, and within budget.
In other words, I produce words that sing and sell … content that effectively and creatively communicates what you want to say and what your audience needs to hear in order to motivate them to buy (or buy into) your story, book, magazine, product, service, company, idea, opinion, or message.
Some high notes of my “wordsinging” career include:
- Bestselling Anthologist: Editor of the Cup of Comfort book series, Nov. 2010 through Jan. 2011; compiled/edited 36 titles (anthologies of personal essays; an annotated cookbook); more than 2 million copies sold; blog and e-newsletter
- Co-Author: The Everything Kids Gross Cookbook, 10-Minute Zen, The Dark Eye: The Official Strategy Guide, and six business reference books (Business Research and Communications)
-
Book Doctor/Editor: More than 100 published titles—nonfiction, memoir, fiction; from developmental editing through copyediting and final proof
-
Magazine Editor/Editor-in-Chief: Two award-winning, four-color, glossy consumer magazines, Biblio: Exploring the World of Books and Mercator’s World: The Magazine of Maps, Exploration, and Discovery
-
Associate Editor: Small Business Reports magazine
-
Journalist/Essayist: Dozens of articles and essays published in consumer and trade magazines and journals, including Log Home Designs, Water Efficiency, Fortune, INC., and many others
-
Home and Garden Columnist: Good Times, a regional lifestyles newsmagazine
- Commercial Communications: Blogs, e-newsletters, marketing communications, public relations, corporation communications, technical publications, and more
I provide a wide range of writing, editing, and consulting services to book and magazine publishers, writers, subject matter experts, entrepreneurs, businesses, advertising/marketing agencies, and nonprofit organizations.
I also offer writing workshops and am available to speak at writers’ conferences.
